Technician Bookstore

Over the years I’ve encountered many text books and study guides for Pharmacy Technicians. Some of the texts offered by the very colleges teaching courses to future technicians are just horrible. While I’m trying my best to offer the most resources and advice I can, it is always good to have a great source to go to that is tangible and you can carry with you for a quick study session or reading on the go.

I’ve compiled a few of my favorites, a little bit about them, and what you can expect from each source. I’ve found that Amazon really does offer the most competitive prices, with their huge inventory and third party sellers, you can find these items at great prices.

Mosby’s Review for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination

Customer Review:
“The book is concise and covers only what you NEED to know. It does contain a few typos regarding abbreviations for grams and grains which can lead to confusion. The CD review is worth the money without the book; there are just short of 700 flash cards to sharpen your skills whenever you have 15 minutes to study. Great package, well presented. The CD-based tests give you instant feedback as to why the answer is wrong and improve your critical thinking skills.”

Flashcard Study System for the PTCB Exam: PTCB Test Practice Questions & Review for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board Examination

Customer Review:
“I am a nurse who wants to know more about medications, so I purchased these flash cards. I find this a great study aid. I take a bunch with me wherever I go and can study anytime, anywhere.”

Mosby’s Pharmacy Technician: Principles and Practice”

Customer Review:
“This is one of the better books available to give you a good general feel for all the different aspects of the pharmacy technician’s job responsibilities. There are a lot of color pictures and examples which are lacking in many other books. The book gives a general description of the different positions a pharmacy technician may hold such as duties in a hospital setting or in a retail setting, special duties such as preparing chemotherapy drugs, IV drugs and compounding, and also includes chapters on the different body systems and drugs that treat diseases in each system. A CD comes with the book that has animations of the body systems and problems to work on to help prepare for the certification exam. The appendix includes a list of 200 of the more popular drugs and a math review. There is also a practice exam at the end. This is a good all inclusive book if you only want to buy one book that covers a little of everything instead of buying all the books in a series. I work as a technician in a pharmacy and I would recommend this book.”

“Delmar’s Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam Review”

Customer Review:
“This text is an excellent review text. It is written for persons all levels of experience – quick study guides allow the student to skip what he or she is already familiar with, and detailed chapters are included for those who are not familiar with subjects. Questions or problems at the end of each chapter are answered in detail, to allow the student to see what the examiner is looking for and hopefully duplicate it for the exam, rather than simply designating the correct answer and leaving the student to guess why their answer was incorrect. This is really key, as a large part of the success on the exam is understanding what the question is asking and what the examiner wants to know.

Other salient features include a pre-test, to allow the student to pinpoint weaknesses and prioritize study, a sample certification exam, which is written to duplicate the exam in both style and content, and a very large and detailed section on pharmacy math, which includes every type of calculation which might appear on the exam, and as a practice math test. Since the lack of ability to solve math problems is a primary reason why students fail the exam, this is an excellent preparation aid.

All relevant subjects are covered and discussed in detail. An excellent buy for the money, for students of pharmacy technology – and expecially for technicians trained in a retail pharmacy who may be lacking in hospital pharmacy.”
